This image shows John W. Welborn, manager of Food Services at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), placing raw meatballs into a pan for cooking at Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925. A kitchen employee stands in the background, while a second employee is partially visible on the right, using an ice cream scoop to place rounded meatballs into Welborn's hand. Welborn Cafeteria was the main dining hall for Appalachian State since 1925, and served food primarily grown from the University's two farms until the early 1960s. This image appears in the February 10, 1966 edition of "The Appalachian."
