Title

Bookstore, first, Robert Thomas, photo 1

Description

This image shows Robert Thomas, a native of Sugar Grove, NC, at the College Bookstore, built 1934, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Thomas was an Appalachian State graduate from class of 1960. A former member of the Boone Police Force and social studies teacher at Watauga High School, he was hired as a bookstore manager trainee in January 1967. The old College Bookstore occupied a brick building at the corner of Locust St. and College Ave from 1934 to 1967, when it was demolished to make way for a newer, larger University Bookstore, completed in 1969. This image appears in January 26, 1967 edition of "The Appalachian."
