Description

From left to right are Dr. Herbert Walter Wey, Chancellor of Appalachian State University from 1969-1979, Dr. Robert Randall (Director of Placement) and Dr. Max Dowell (Professor of Psychology). Wey was the first chancellor of Appalachian State University when it became part of the University of North Carolina system in 1971. He previously served as chairman of the Department of Education in 1955, as well as serving as dean of the Graduate School until 1957, when he began working at the University of Miami. While chancellor, Appalachian State increased enrollment, constructed several buildings, and started the College of Business. He retired in 1979 and died in 1999.
