Title
Reading Clinic, 1956, photo 1
Description
This image shows a reading clinic being held in the Reading Center at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in November 1956. Seen are a group of young children and adults in a small classroom, looking at books. Books are shelved in the background, and several people are seated at a table, while a boy works with a reel-to-reel on the right. Employee Umberto Price, Chairperson and Professor of Reading, can be seen standing on the right. The children are possibly students from Appalachian Elementary School, a joint program between Watauga County Schools and Appalachian State, wherein Appalachian State faculty and students would teach Watauga County school children. The program lasted from the early 1920s until 1975 and was housed since 1954 in Whitener Hall, built 1954.
