This image shows Blanford Barnard Dougherty, standing on a stage at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on August 15, 1955. Blanford Barnard Dougherty was co-founder and co-principal of Watauga Academy (1988-1903), superintendent of Appalachian Training School (1903-1925), and president of Appalachian State Normal School (1924-1929) and Appalachian State Teachers College until his retirement on June 30, 1955.
