President's Reception, 1955, photo 6

Description

A semi-formal reception was held in the Men's Gymnasium, built 1934, for Dr. and Mrs. William Howard Plemmons, the new president at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on October 17, 1955. Attending were Dr. and Mrs. Plemmons, Dean and Mrs. J. D. Whitener, Mr. and Mrs. Barnard Dougherty, Mr. and Mrs. Chapell Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Pritchett, Miss Barbara Stephenson, Dr. B. B. Dougherty, and Dean J. D. Rankin. It included a dance at the Women's Gymnasium, built 1924, and was sponsored by the Student Council. This image shows Mrs. Plemmons and Dr. Plemmons with Student Council President Bill Benson and senior Russell McDonald.
