Description
This image shows the bus drivers for Appalachian High School (1938-1965), also known as Demonstration High School, posing in front of Watauga County school buses on February 1955. Appalachian High School and Appalachian Elementary School were joint ventures between Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and Watauga County, wherein Watauga County students would be taught in a building provided by Appalachian State, which would be taught by Appalachian faculty and students, who would gain professional experience in the process. The high school was held in Chapell Wilson Hall, 1938, until 1965, while the elementary school was held first in Boone Grade School, later the Education Building, built 1925, and in Whitener Hall, built 1954, after its completion. The elementary school was ended in 1975.
