Description

On April 23, 1955, Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) hosted its second one-day business conference for business teachers in the auditorium at I. G. Greer Hall, built 1950. The chief speaker was Dr. Irol Balsley, seen seated second to the left, who spoke on testing and grading typewriting and shorthand. Balsley was the author of several works on shorthand, transcribing, and letter writing. Seated, from left to right, Appalachian professor Nellie Hope Ellison, Dr. Irol Belsley, and professor Kathryn Tully. Standing in the back are Head of the Business Education Department James Thompson in the middle, and typing professor Roscoe Allen can be seen standing on the right.
