Description

This image shows a Varsouvianna practice coached by Mrs. Joy Kirchner of the Department of Health and Physical Education at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) at the Women's Gymnasium, built 1924, in 1955. Kirchner sponsored both the Modern Dance Club and Varsouvianna, which specialized in folk dances. Varouvianna performed at Appalachian festivities as well as county fairs in the Western North Carolina region.
