Description

This image shows a group of freshmen students at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) sitting on the floor of a basketball court in one of the gymnasiums. They are gathered around a speaker standing in the middle of the image. The man standing in the center of the image is Dr. William G. Spencer, Professor of Music. This image was taken during Freshman Week in September 1955, which included orientation programs such as placement testing, instruction, campus fellowship and religious events, as well as socials and other nightly festivities aimed at freshmen. Seen in the background is an old Coca-Cola vending machine.
