Description

This image shows one of the gym activities at Appalachian Elementary School, also known as the Demonstration Elementary School, on May 5, 1955. A group of girls are seen playing volleyball. The bus in the background reads, "North Carolina Public Schools, Watauga County." Appalachian Elementary School was a joint venture between Appalachian State and Watauga County Schools, wherein Watauga students would be taught by Appalachian State faculty and students, who would gain experience. It was housed by 1955 in Whitener Hall, built 1954, and ended in 1975.
