North Carolina History Class, 1954

Description

This image shows the graduate class in North Carolina history that embarked on a tour of the state in February 1954. The trip's purpose was to visit historical and industrial centers of the state. They are seen standing in front of the second Administration Building, built 1924. Included in the trip were department chairman D. J. Whitener (far left), history professor Ina Woestemerfer VanNoppen (fourth from left), and graduate students Carl A. Litaker (center), Van Roberson Layson (fourth from right), Robert Shuford, Ben Mast, Rolland Rees, Mickey Pierce, Virginia Sprinkle, and Mrs. Earleen Pritchett.
