Title

Playcrafters, "Home of the Brave," 1954, backstage, photo 2

Description

This image shows five Playcrafters, the dramatic club at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), having makeup applied by Janet Houck and Sue McMillan in preparation for the January 1954 production of "Home of the Brave," a World War II drama about a Jewish soldier's experience in the South Pacific. Ed Collins ("T. J.") can be seen on the left having makeup applied by Janet Houck, and Charles Hales ("Coney") can be seen on the right applying clear "greasepaint" on his face. Words on back of actor's costume read, "Millan, N.C., Scamp." The production won the highest rating at the annual drama festival in Chapel Hill, NC, that year.
