This image shows Appalachian State President William Howard Plemmons receiving a gift portrait of himself from the class of 1959, presented by senior and student government president Walter T. Broyhill. Plaque on portrait reads, "Dr. William Plemmons, presented by the Class of 59." Plemmons was president of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and Appalachian State University (1967-current) from 1955-1969.
