Description

This image shows Chancellor John E. Thomas (1979-1993) in his office at the B. B. Dougherty Administration Building, built 1968. Thomas has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a JD in law, and served as the vice chancellor for Academic Affairs from 1974 to 1979. During his term, the campus saw its first PhD program, established the Appalachian Summer arts festival, started Appalnet, an 8-channel campus cable system, and a campus-wide audio, video, and data system was built. He retired in 1993.
