This image shows Irvin Watson Carpenter, professor in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1960s. He can be seen sitting at a desk in an office. Carpenter began teaching at Appalachian State in 1953. He served as chairman from 1973 to 1979 and retired in 1986.
