Description

This image shows members of an educational organization in North Carolina posing for a photograph in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Daniel Jay Whitener, dean of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), can be seen standing second from the right, and William Howard Plemmons, president of Appalachian State, can be seen standing in the center. Whitener taught history and social studies at Appalachian State since 1932, and served as dean of the College from 1955 to 1964. Plemmons served as president from 1955 to 1969.
