This image shows Daniel Jay Whitener, dean of the College at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1950s. Whitener taught history and social studies at Appalachian State since 1932, was chairman of the Department of Social Studies from 1932 to 1956, and served as dean of the College from 1955 to 1964.
