Rhododendron, Vivian and John Welborn, 1963

Description

This image shows John W. Welborn, manager of Food Services, and Vivian Welborn, dietician and professor, standing in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, being presented with a copy of the 1963 Rhododendron during a ceremony at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1963. Welborn was manager of the Cafeteria from 1939 until 1973. Vivian Welborn taught in the Home Economics Department from 1944 until 1974, and served as a dietician from 1948 to 1963. Welborn Cafeteria was the main dining hall for Appalachian State since 1925, and served food primarily grown from the University's two farms until the early 1960s. The Rhododendron was the annual student yearbook from 1922 to 1992 and from 2004 to 2005.
