This image shows Vance C. Howell and G. T. Sawyer, retired professors in the Department of Social Studies at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), standing in front of a bookcase holding magazines in October 1965. Howell began teaching political science at Appalachian State in 1923 and retired in July 1962. Sawyer taught sociology at Appalachian State from 1926 to 1962.
