This image shows Vance C. Howell and G. T. Sawyer, retired professors in the Department of Social Studies, standing on the steps of Duncan Hall, built 1965, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in October 1965. Howell began teaching political science at Appalachian State in 1923 and retired in July 1962. Sawyer taught sociology at Appalachian State from 1926 to 1962. The auditorium building and Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, can be seen in the background.
