Description

This image shows Mr. John Howell, principal at Appalachian Elementary School (1925-1975) in the 1950s. Appalachian Elementary School, also known as the Demonstration Elementary School, was a joint project between Watauga County Schools and Appalachian State from the early 1920s to the mid-1970s, where elementary school students were taught by Appalachian State students and faculty. Howell attended Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and graduated in 1930 with a bachelor of science degree.
