This image shows Maxie Edmisten, dean of Women, at her retirement party at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1971. Edmisten can be seen using a spatula put a piece of cake onto a man's plate. The Dean of Women handled administrative affairs and regulations for women students. Edmisten served as dean from 1957 until her retirement in 1971.
