This image shows Maxie Edmisten, dean of Women, at her retirement party at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1971. Edmisten can be seen using a spatula to remove a piece of food from a tray. The Dean of Women handled administrative affairs and regulations for women students. Edmisten served as dean from 1957 until her retirement in 1971.
