Alumni Picnic, 1962

Description

This image shows Vice-President and Comptroller David Barnard Dougherty (1955-1965) and Dean of the College Daniel J. Whitener (1955-1964) standing outside holding plates and cups during an Forsyth County alumni picnic held on the grounds of the new stadium at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in August 1962. Dougherty served as business manager from 1938 to 1955, and as vice-president of the College from 1955 until 1965. Whitener taught history and social studies at Appalachian State since 1932. The food was provided by the College Cafeteria. This image appears in the August 10, 1962, edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 1).
