This image shows alumni James E. Broyhill receiving an honorary doctorate at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Broyhill attended Appalachian Training School (1903-1925) from 1913 to 1917 and founded the Lenoir Chair Company in 1926. He can be seen having a doctoral hood placed around his neck.
