Alpha Chi, 1965

This image shows the group of new inductees into the campus chapter of Alpha Chi standing in front of a classroom holding candles at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in January 1965. A desk with three candelabras can be seen on the right, and three professors in academic dress are on the right and left. Standing behind the middle candelabra is Dr. John Braden, Professor of Education. Alpha Chi is a general honor society open to students ranking academically in the top ten percent of their class at their institution. This image appears in the January 14, 1965, edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 1).
