D. D. Dougherty Library, entrance, circa 1956

Description

This image shows associate professor Roy Blanton, Jr., of the Department of Education standing in front of D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1950s. Students can be seen walking up the stairs into the building. Blanton taught in the Department of Education from 1956 to 1958 before leaving to serve as principal of Appalachian High School from 1958-1964. D. D. Dougherty Library served as the main library until Belk Library opened in 1969. The stairs were removed and a new entrance was added to the building in 1960.
