This image shows Jose Amaro, professor in the Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in January 1968. He can be seen pointing to a map of Cuba. Amaro began teaching at Appalachian State in 1967. This image appears in the January 11, 1968, edition of the "Watauga Democrat" and the "Elkin Tribune," and the January 10, 1968, edition of the "Lenoir News-Topic."
