Description
This image shows President William Howard Plemmons (955-1969) speaking to the audience during the dedication ceremony of Conrad Stadium, built 1962, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in October 1962. Alfred Adams and James Marsh can be seen on the right, and Director of Public Affairs Bob Allen can be seen standing second from the left, holding framed plaques. Adams and March were leaders of the Watauga County Heartline campaign to raise local funds for construction of the stadium and were presented with plaques and footballs during the ceremony. Conrad Stadium replaced College Field, located approximately at the current location of Rankin Science Hall, and was dedicated to William J. Conrad, head of the Board of Trustees.
