Description

This image shows one of the contestants for Miss Black Culture entering the University Bookstore, built 1969, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in October 1975. The Miss Black Culture Pageant was part of the Celebration of Black Beauty week, and included eleven African-American contestants, and the winner would participate in the Miss ASU pageant in November 1975. The Celebration of Black Beauty event was sponsored by the Black Cultural Committee and included a performance by the dance group Festival Africaine, the Miss Black Culture pageant, speeches, art exhibits, and musical performances.
