This image shows Professor Emeritus Wiley Smith handing a plaque to a man as an award for placing in a jogging contest at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1960s. The men behind Dr. Smith who are smoking pipes are Dr. Carl Messere on the left and President William Plemmons (1955-1969) on the right. The entrance to Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, can be seen in the background.
