This image shows a hand glider landing in a field by a river during the U. S. Hang Gliding Championships held at Grandfather Mountain near Linville, North Carolina, in the 1970s. The event was sponsored by the United States Hang Gliding Association, a non-profit organization that supported non-motorized, foot-launched hang gliding.
