This image shows a competitor gliding over a river during the U. S. Hang Gliding Championships held at Grandfather Mountain near Linville, North Carolina, in the 1970s. A man can be seen sitting in a boat on the river. The event was sponsored by the United States Hang Gliding Association, a non-profit organization that supported non-motorized, foot-launched hang gliding.
