This image shows a competitor standing on the bank of a river next to his glider, in a river on the left, during the U. S. Hang Gliding Championships held at Grandfather Mountain near Linville, North Carolina, in the 1970s. The event was sponsored by the United States Hang Gliding Association, a non-profit organization that supported non-motorized, foot-launched hang gliding.
