Mountaineer Playhouse, Pinocchio, 1971, photo 2

This image shows the Mountaineer Playhouse performing the play "Pinocchio" outdoors at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the summer of 1971. Six actors in a variety of costumes can be seen standing outside. The Mountaineer Playhouse was a community theatre company established in the summer of 1971 by Professor Ed Pilkington in the Department of Speech and Theatre. Working primarily out of Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, the group performed summer productions using local professional actors and student interns. This image appears in the July 30, 1971 edition of the "Hickory Daily Record" (p. 5).
