Description

This image shows the Mountaineer Playhouse performing the play "Snow White and Rose Red" at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in July 1971. An actor portraying Snow White can be seen being scared by a bear. The Mountaineer Playhouse was a community theatre company established in the summer of 1971 by Professor Ed Pilkington in the Department of Speech and Theatre. Working primarily out of Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, the group performed summer productions using local professional actors and student interns. This image appears in the July 15, 1971, edition of the "Winston-Salem Journal" (p. 18).
