Mountaineer Playhouse, Blithe Spirit, 1972, photo 2

Description

This image shows the Mountaineer Playhouse performing the play "Blithe Spirit" at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in July 1972. Madame Arcati can be seen trying to exorcise the ghost of Charles Condomine's second wife, seen sitting in a chair in the center. The Mountaineer Playhouse was a community theatre company established in the summer of 1971 by Professor Ed Pilkington in the Department of Speech and Theatre. Working primarily out of Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, the group performed summer productions using local professional actors and student interns.
