This image shows the Mountaineer Playhouse performing the play "A Thousand Clowns" at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in July 1976. One man can be seen with his hands in the air, dropping a box into a garbage can, while another stands on the right. The Mountaineer Playhouse was a community theatre company established in the summer of 1971 by Professor Ed Pilkington in the Department of Speech and Theatre. Working primarily out of Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, the group performed summer productions using local professional actors and student interns.
