This image shows one of the speakers addressing the audience at the Honors Program award ceremony in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1981. Other speakers, faculty, and administrators can be seen sitting on the left and right. Speaking is Dr. Harvey Durham, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The man seated on the right, wearing glasses and facing the speaker, is Dean Nicholas Erneston (Fine and Applied Arts). The Honors Program is an academic and residential community for high achieving students and is open to freshmen, transfer students, and current students at Appalachian State.
