Kent State Memorial, 1970, photo 9

Description

This image shows the attendees of a memorial held in honor of the students killed at Kent State and Jackson State College held at Sanford Mall at Appalachian State University (1967-current) on May 12, 1970. The memorial was attended by approximately three hundred students and included speeches by Reverends Reggie Smith and Gray Temple. Students can be seen standing or sitting around Sanford Mall, and a speaker can be seen standing on a platform in the center. Students are walking in the foreground, and L. S. Dougherty Hall, built 1962, and Lucy Brock Nursery School, built 1965, are visible in the background.
