Homecoming Court, 1966, photo 3

Description

This image shows the Homecoming court standing in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, during the Homecoming dance at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in October 1966. Five couples can be seen standing in the gym, each of the women holding flowers, and the band is partially visible in the background. The Homecoming court consisted of Queen Sharon Dodge and attendants Terry Deweese, Mary Verble, Helen Eicher, Julie Lindsey, and Cindy Starr. Homecoming was an annual event that included dramatic performances, a parade, a dance, a football game, reunion activities, and the crowning of the Homecoming queen. This image appears in the 1967 Rhododendron (p. 74-75).
