Kent State Memorial, 1970, photo 10

Description

This image shows the speakers at a memorial held in honor of the students killed at Kent State and Jackson State College held at Sanford Mall at Appalachian State University (1967-current) on May 12, 1970. Four men can be seen standing on a platform while one stands behind a podium addressing the crowd. The memorial was attended by approximately three hundred students and included speeches by Reverends Reggie Smith and Gray Temple. Students can be seen standing or sitting around Sanford Mall, and L. S. Dougherty Hall, built 1962, and Lucy Brock Nursery School, built 1965, are visible in the background.
