Title

Barn Theater Renovation, 1971-72, photo 1

Description

This image shows a group of student volunteers helping to renovate one of the campus dairy barns into a theater for Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1971-72. On the far left is Dr. James Jackson, Dean of the College of Continuing Education. The structure was one of four barns originally used to hold 200 Holsteins by the campus dairy at Old State Farm, which closed in 1964. The plans called for turning the largest of the four barns into a 206-seat theater for plays, dances, films, and lectures, with adjoining dressing rooms in the silo. It opened in 1972.
