Athletic Trainers, 1985-86, photo 2

This image shows the athletic training staff for the Athletic Department at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1985-86. Athletic trainers included staff and students enrolled in the Athletic Training Curriculum, and worked to prevent and treat athletic injuries. Each varsity sport had at least one athletic trainer assigned to it, excepting football which had four. This image appears in the 1986 Rhododendron (p. 305). Standing third from the right on the third row is Ms. Cindy Thomas (Athletic Trainer), fourth from the right is Dr. Evan Ashby (Health Services Physician and Director of Health Services) and fifth from the right is Dr. William Herring (Boone M.D.). On the back row from right to left are: Mr. Craig Denegar (Athletic Trainer), Dr. Arnold Walden (Health Services Physician), Dr. Lowell Furman (Boone M.D.), Mr. Rod Walters (Athletic Trainer) and Dr. William Derrick (Health Services Physician and Assistant Director of Health Services).
