Title

Arnold Adoff Visit, 1972

Description

This image shows a group of students and teachers listening to author Arnold Adoff speaking at the D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) on October 4, 1972. Adoff, seen standing on right, held a session on writing children's books in the juvenile section of the library, and also held a poetry reading and discussion session the next day at Plemmons Student Union. The event was sponsored by the Appalachian Training Complex, a grant-funded program at Appalachian State University to retrain teachers already in the work force and study new methods to teach students. It was part of a group of educational research projects including the Training for Teacher Trainers Project, the Lighthouse School Program, and the Teacher Corps.
