This image shows student Paul West receiving the American Institute of Chemists Student Award at an awards ceremony held by the Honors Program in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1977-78. The Honors Program is an academic and residential community for high achieving students and is open to freshmen, transfer students, and current students at Appalachian State. Presenting the award is Dr. James Buchanan, Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry. Seated beside Dr. Buchanan and in the foreground is seen Dr. W.C.
