This image shows student Sandra Shumaker receiving the Vivian Welborn Scholarship from Professor Vivian Welborn at an awards ceremony held by the Honors Program in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1977-78. The Honors Program is an academic and residential community for high achieving students and is open to freshmen, transfer students, and current students at Appalachian State. In the foreground and seated beside Ms. Welborn is Dr. W.C. Strickland. From left to right and seated behind Ms. Welborn are Dr. Braxton Harris, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
