Whitener, Rankin, and Lois Earnhardt, 1962

Description

This image shows Dean D. J. Whitener sitting with Dean Emeritus J. D. Rankin and veteran teacher Lois Earnhardt in an office in the second Administration Building, built 1924, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on July 24, 1962. Whitener was dean of the College from 1955 to 1964, Rankin served as professor and former dean of College from 1921 to 1955, and intrim college president in 1955. Earnhardt had taught high school in Lenoir, NC, for twenty years and was at Appalachian State in preparation for taking a new teaching position in Key West, Florida. This image appears in the August 10, 1962, edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 3).
