Description

This image shows a group of students sitting on a paved basketball court while a counselor give them instructions at Camp Broadstone in Valle Crucis, NC, in July 1973. Camp Broadstone was purchased by the State of North Carolina, Watauga County, and the newly formed Appalachian School Camp, Inc., in 1961 for ten dollars. Appalachian School Camp, Inc., was formed to manage the property as an education tool for elementary and high school students, as well as to provide teaching experience in an outdoor setting. Camp Broadstone is a multi-use facility run by the the Office of Conferences and Institutes at Appalachian State University (1967-current).
